Celebration at Perini's

These people are some of the best folks in the world.  These people were in charge of the Sweetwater School District and Mustang Athletics some years ago.  I have said many times that because of them Sweetwater was the best place to teach in Texas.  I still say that today.

We met at Perini's Steakhouse Friday night to celebrate retiring from public schools.  Susan and I were the last of the old gang (in this picture) to retire from school.  Mike, Stacey, and Jessica are all the next generation of teachers.  Andrew and Dody are the only ones smart enough to go a different route.

Scenes of San Francisco

At the Golden Gate Bridge. We're smiling!

The Ballparks

Oakland County Coliseum was disappointing but we had been told to expect this.  It is old and dingy.  There were almost as many Rangers fans as A's fans.  We sat behind home plate row 25. Yu Darvish pitched.  It was not a very good outing for Yu.  Rangers lost.

AT&T Park was really nice. It is much newer than the Coliseum. Parking was $30 but just a short walk to the park.

The people at both places were really nice.  Our seats at AT&T were up high but this gave us a great view of the bay bridge and the bay.  Matt Harrison pitched here.  He was terrific. Rangers won 5-0.

The Bucket List

We have always wanted to complete our map of the US by visiting all fifty states.  Then we altered the list by saying that we wanted to go watch the Texas Rangers play baseball in all the different ballparks.
Andrew and Chelsea had heard us talking about this at some time.  So for Christmas this past year they gave us tickets to the Rangers games in Oakland and San Francisco on back-to-back nights in June.  Now this took some terrific investigation from our kids.  They wanted us to get the most bang for the bucks.  So with this gift, we could check off two ballparks on one trip.  Good thinking!

We flew out to San Francisco on a Wednesday and went to the games on Thursday and Friday.  We flew back on Sunday.  We actually stayed in Pacifica, CA.  We had a great time.  We went to the usual tourist spots: Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz (went around it by boat), Cable Cars, and Muir Woods (to see the Redwoods) and Nappa to the wine country.

This is our hotel in Pacifica.

This is the view from our room.

How's Retirement?

Okay... Everyone keeps asking, "How's Retirement?"

The truth is... We're not really retired.  We're just changing jobs.  Yes the new jobs will only be part time.  But we still have the mindset that we're not free to go where we want, when we want.

Susan will be a teacher in the 4-year old class at Cornerstone Christian School.  This class meets M,W,F. She is very excited about starting this job in August.  I will be Facilities Manager (yes, that's what they call it) at the Methodist Church in Sweetwater.  I will start my new job July 2.

It's really a good thing that we have jobs because I'm not sure we would enjoy our company 24/7. LOL
